Overview

Hypnosis supports change by working with the subconscious mind, particularly the thoughts, reactions, and patterns that we’re not always aware of. It can be helpful for people who want to shift long-standing patterns, explore limiting beliefs, or gain clarity around emotional or behavioral challenges.

Hypnosis uses relaxation, focused attention, and reduced awareness of external distractions to create an inwardly focused state, similar to meditation or daydreaming. This state is natural and self-induced, and most people can access it easily. Throughout the process, you remain aware, present, and in control at all times.

Hypnosis can be used on its own or alongside other forms of support.

What to Expect During a Hypnosis Session

Opening Conversation
We’ll start by talking through your intentions and any questions you may have. This helps make sure the session is aligned with you.

Relaxation Induction
While you are seated or lying down, I’ll guide you through Progressive Relaxation and gentle deepening to support a comfortable, focused state.

Establishing Focus
You may be invited to imagine a place that feels safe or comfortable to help you settle in and focus before moving into deeper exploration.

Exploration and Inquiry
From there, we’ll begin exploring the issue you are working through, including what you’re experiencing emotionally, physically, or internally. This may involve noticing thoughts, beliefs, and patterns connected to your situation.

Creating Resolution
Depending on what comes up, we may use visualization, symbolic work, or other approaches to help bring clarity, shift perspective, or support resolution.

Conclusion and Review
We’ll gently bring the session to a close, then take time to talk through your experience and any insights or questions.

Signs of Integration or Ongoing Change

You may not feel noticeably different during or immediately after hypnosis. While some changes are felt right away, others are more subtle and may unfold over time or across multiple sessions.

You might notice:

  • Shifts in perception, thoughts, or beliefs

  • Subtle changes in behavior or increased awareness of patterns

  • Greater emotional resilience

  • Increased clarity around what you explored

  • A deeper sense of self-awareness

What Hypnosis May Feel Like

There is no “right” way to feel hypnotized, and none of these experiences are required for hypnosis to be effective. Each person’s experience is unique.
You might notice:

Physical:

  • Deep relaxation

  • A sense of heaviness, lightness, or tingling

  • Slower breathing

  • Reduced awareness of external distractions

  • Eyes may close naturally

Emotional & mental:

  • Stronger connection to emotions

  • Heightened inward focus

  • Increased responsiveness to imagery

  • An altered sense of time

  • Greater insight or perspective

How Information May Present Itself

While many people expect to “see” things during hypnosis, experiences can come through in different and equally valid ways.

You might notice:

  • An inner knowing

  • Visual impressions

  • Emotional or physical sensations

  • Internal dialogue

  • Sensory impressions (sound, taste, or smell)

Possible After-Effects

Because hypnosis works with underlying thoughts, emotions, and body responses, the mind and body may go through a short, temporary period of adjustment. Some people find it helpful to keep brief notes between sessions to notice any changes.

After-effects may include:

  • Drowsiness, dizziness, or headache when coming out of hypnosis

  • Changes in sleep patterns

  • Increased emotional sensitivity

  • Greater awareness of thoughts

Potential Benefits of Hypnosis

Hypnosis may support change in different ways and at different paces. Some shifts are felt quickly, while others develop over time.

You might notice:

  • Greater clarity around your thoughts and emotions

  • Reduced stress, anxiety, or emotional tension

  • Changes in thoughts, beliefs, habits, or behaviors

  • Increased self-trust, confidence, and resilience

  • Improved ability to manage and regulate emotions

  • A deeper sense of self-acceptance

You don’t need to have it figured out before you begin. You can come in as you are, and we’ll work with whatever comes up. You can schedule your session here.

The following sections go a bit deeper into how I approach this work, along with answers to some of the most common questions and misconceptions about hypnosis.

Understanding My Approach

Facilitator of the Process
As a facilitator, my role is to guide you into a relaxed state, ask thoughtful, non-leading questions, and support the process as it unfolds. I’m not here to interpret or direct your experience, but to help you access your own understanding and make connections that feel meaningful to you.

The Body–Mind Connection
Your body holds important information. It’s often where you feel a “yes” or “no,” or where fear and resistance show up. There is a strong connection between what the body feels and the meaning we give to an experience. As that meaning begins to shift, the body often responds by softening and releasing tension.

The Role of Imagination
Imagination and visualization are tools for exploration and change. They can help you see a situation from a different perspective and better understand what’s shaping your experience. Over time, this can begin to reshape the stories and beliefs you carry.

Non-Linear Change
Change is not always linear. Some issues are layered and may take time to work through. What feels like a setback is often part of the process as your system adjusts and integrates new awareness.

Clarifications About Hypnosis

Hypnosis Is Not A State of Unconsciousness
During hypnosis, you remain awake, aware, and able to respond. Many people describe the experience as similar to deep relaxation, meditation, or focused daydreaming, and some notice very little difference between trance and ordinary awareness.

Hypnosis Does Not Override Your Values or Sense of Self
During hypnosis, you remain aligned with what feels right to you. You will only engage with or retain suggestions or insights that resonate with your values, boundaries, and intentions.

Hypnosis Does Not Erase Memories
While many people wish they could forget a painful relationship or experience, hypnosis doesn’t remove memories. Instead, it helps reduce the emotional charge they carry, so you can address underlying beliefs, patterns, or meanings.

Hypnosis Is Rarely A Cure-all or A Quick Fix
Hypnosis is a process that supports insight, awareness, and change. While some concerns may shift quickly, many changes unfold over time through awareness, integration, and engagement.

Not All Memories That Arise During Hypnosis Are Literal or Factual
Experiences recalled during hypnosis may be symbolic, metaphorical, or shaped by imagination, emotion, or past learning. What matters most is the insight or meaning they offer in relation to your current experience.

Trance Depth Varies From Person to Person and From Session to Session
There is no required level of trance for hypnosis to be effective. Many people move in and out of different degrees of focus during a session. Meaningful change can occur at any stage.

The Conscious Mind Does Not Turn Off During Hypnosis
The presence of intrusive thoughts during a session is normal. While techniques may help support focus, these thoughts do not interfere with the process or its effectiveness.
